Histograms
#1
recently bought and started using portrait professional. It is powerfully well though out, intuitive tool for quickly and simply achieving accomplished retouching that could take hours in photoshop.

My only gripe so far is the lack of histograms when making tonal/exposure adjustments. Even when using spectro profiled monitors, making tonal adjustments without watching the results on a histogram is an exercise in vague approximation. Our eyes fool us more often than not when it comes to assessing exposure, shadows, and tonal balance of the on-screen image. A histogram doesn't lie, if one knows how to use it :-)

And an RGB measurement under the pointer to go with it. Too often I put carefully-exposed images into PP, only to find they have come out blown or at least over-exposed in the R channel.
