Drop file onto app icon in OS X

Most apps in OS X allow you to drop a file onto the icon of the program you want to use it with and it will open the file but when i do this, it just opens the software with an open image box again.

Would be nice to fix it to make it like 90 percent of apps on a mac that support drop opening.
