Thanks so much Roscoe! I am going to give this a try. One interesting quirk I have noticed (are you listening Anthropics code writers?) I seem to be able to open portrait oriented images just fine. Only landscape images seem to cause the error. The plot thickens!
Roscoe Wrote:The fact that the first image opened worked fine indicates that ........... maybe, just maybe the .dll is being corrupted by something. Copy the same (good) .dll again and see if the first image you open works OK .... if all subsequent images are corrupted then there's your answer. Hint ........ keep a stockpile of good .dll files or, better yet, make the .dll file write protected (currently it's an archive file). Have a read of this http://webfreebies4u.blogspot.com/2009/0...x-dll.html

That same .dll file appears 12 times on my PC, different sizes though
There's some important information about that .dll on this site. Evidently it's susceptible to corruption !
Read the bit with the yellow background.

It might be worth downloading and running the scanner mentioned to see if it's infected/corrupted.
If you have an anti-virus or anti-spyware scanning programme which scans programmes when you launch them maybe it's detecting that .dll as a "rogue" file and corrupting it in some way.
