You do not have to be connected to the internet to use Portrait Professional. In very old versions you did, but not for a few years. You do need an internet connection to download and install Portrait Professional, but after running it for the first time, there is no requirement, so no need to worry about loosing a connection. The download for Portrait Professional is around 30 mb.
