Nikon .nef file support? - tom f - 04-19-2008 Does the RAW version of Portrail Professional support the Nikon .nef file format? Thanks, Tom RE: Nikon .nef file support? - admin - 04-19-2008 Yes we do. All the raw formats we support are listed here: Raw formats supported by Portrait Professional Max Tony RE: Nikon .nef file support? - tom f - 04-20-2008 admin Wrote:Yes we do. All the raw formats we support are listed here: Raw formats supported by Portrait Professional Max I purchased your RAW version of PP then downloaded the Nikon .nef portrait to be touched up. The downloaded .nef file in PP was grayed down and lacked the color and sharpness from the original .nef portrait. The image was unsatisfactory and not usable. After converting the .nef file to a .tiff file the image was downloaded in PP. The touchup was successful and complete. What am I doing wrong? I am using a Nikon D300 camera. Please advise. Thanks, Tom RE: Nikon .nef file support? - Gary - 04-21-2008 Hi, could you send us an example .nef file showing this problem and we will look into this and should be able to fix it. Pls help. Joseph RE: Nikon .nef file support? - Gary - 06-24-2008 Hi, I have replied to you giving my email address. To update your software choose the Help menu in Portrait Professional and then select "check for updates". You will then be shown all of your upgrade options. regards, Gary Anthropics RE: Nikon .nef file support? - Gary - 06-25-2008 The main problem here is that Nikon have encrypted some of the settings for some of their cameras raw files, and this prevents us reading those values. This is also a problem for many other programs that process Nikon raw files. We are in contact with Nikon and are working on the problem. We should have a solution soon. I have just bought a Nikon camera and I have noticed the same problem. Since this post is from 2008 , is there any solution for that? I have a D750. RE: Nikon .nef file support? - Gary - 01-31-2015 We have a plugin that uses the Canon and Nikon libraries for loading those files. You can install the Windows version here: http://cloudfront.portraitprofessional.com/PPCanonNikonRAWPlugin/PPCanonNikonRAWPlugin_v1.1Setup.exe and Mac version from here: http://cloudfront.portraitprofessional.com/PPCanonNikonRAWPlugin/PPCanonNikonRAWPlugin_v1.1Setup.dmg If you find this does not work for your camera, this is because even the Nikon and Canon public libraries can't decode the format correctly. Another solution is to process your raw files into Adobe raw using the free Adobe converter for this. The Windows download is here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows and Mac one here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh With this you can convert all of your raw files into the common Adobe Raw DNG format. You will lose no information from the files in doing this, but the resulting DNG files will load into many more programs correctly including Portrait Pro. |
