Photoshop is a good option to go with which can be used to add light and improve picture quality.
Place the lights at obtuse angles (greater than 90º) to avoid reflections.
Look for what are the settings of the camera. Give some details about which picture look awful and some more related to it.
It depends on which devices you are using and lightening effects also matter a lot.
If you are using flash to get your photos clicked!
Try capturing it in natural day light
If you don't have studio lighting then I'd suggest natural light in the shade, and use a tripod if you have one
