Licensing - longiron07 - 09-13-2010

I recently purchashed Portrait Professional 9.8 and think it is a very good product.  However, I do a great portion of my work on my desktop, but I find that there are times...especially when meeting with clients that the software could be used to assist me in these meetings.  Most software programs that I am familiar with, and I am familiar with many, allow at least, the installation of the product on two computers. This software does not.  Is this something that should be considered?  Food for thought.  Great software, and I certainly understand the need to restrict licensing, to a degree, but for those of us that need just a little flexibility, it would be wonderful if consideration could be given to this situation.  Any thoughts out there relating to this topic?

Get to know ThinApp ............ http://en.kioskea.net/faq/1500-make-a-portable-application-with-thinapp
Then you can use ANY programme on ANY computer just by copying it to a flash drive memory stick (thumb drive)

Roscoe, I've seen you answer this a few times, and yes, while that works, I think it (1) works around the *intent* of their licensing agreement, and (2) is merely a workaround; as now I would have to carry a key around, install extra software on my computer(s), etc. Some of us are too old and "just want it to work". ;-)

I think what we really want is the "one user, one machine at a time", 'treat it like a book' policy that, afaik, Borland pioneered in the 80's" Most companies allow for a secondary installation of their software on another machine for one person's use.

Using thinapp with a thumbdrive would break the license agreement. This is the first paragraph of the agreement:

(a) You may install and use the Software on a single computer; OR install and store the Software on a storage device, such as a network server, used only to install the Software on your other computers over an internal network, provided you have a license for each separate computer on which the Software is installed and run.

I just purchased the software as well. I think that it would be good to be able to have it on a second machine. I use my laptop when I am on the road and I use my desktop at home. I also use photoshop and lightroom. Adobe allows 2 licenses. I wish that it was possible here as well.

photosnorth, I fully agree, and I believe most of us do. PP's licensing is obsolete and out of step with graphics software norms. Everyone has both a laptop and desktop these days. Adobe, Corel, and others have a 1-user 2-machine license. If anyone is like me, they would much rather spend their hard earned money on an upgrade to PP, rather than a redundant license.

I use a Windows notebook machine ... plus an iMac. Therefore I'd really apreciate a "two machine cross-platform licence" (just like DXO, CaptureOne, Lightroom and many others).

Thanks Gary, I didn't expect this to be a support request. I'll definitely contact them.

Cheers.
