I think the program is terrific! Having a lot of fun with it. Only complaint from my clients is that it makes them too young looking.

I would like to see the application work on side views or silouettes rathe than only straight on... Or, is there a technique I am not using?

Portrait Professional is intended for front on faces. However you can use most of the features on side on faces. See my post here.
